Unplugged Day ?

Finally pulled the trigger for real today.  My long running cell number is transferring to Google Voice as I type.

It is not all perfection in the land of VOIP.  That is for sure.  I will almost certainly make important business calls either over standard cell connections or a “land line” (which is certainly VOIP under the hood, but whatever).  I’m sure I will throw in the towel on the experiment at some point, but for now, lets see how it goes.

During the port I had to dig for various pieces of info, which forced me to look at my Verizon bill.  Short story, if the bill was roughly the same every monty, I’ll be saving $100-$120.  At first this wasn’t really about money, but that’s kind of crazy.  That’s a huge difference.

We’ll see how this plays out.  I’m really glad the t-mobile/AT&T merger was blocked.  The bigger carriers really don’t try to compete on price too much.  The sad irony, of course, is that because the bigger players have been able to jack up prices, they do quite a bit more advertising, as well as technology investment.  Not sure if t-mobile will be able to keep up in the long run.  See how that goes.
