Cooling down with Peloton & Grubhub

We threw our second annual “Sorry You’re Not at I/O” party at Peloton Cycle. Partygoers were greeted with a never-ending supply of pizza & buckets of beer.

It’s another hot summer in New York City so we’re lucky our summer meetup hosts have working A.C. and plenty of refreshments 😉 In May, we threw our second annual “Sorry You’re Not at I/O” party at Peloton Cycle. Partygoers were greeted with a never-ending supply of pizza, buckets of beer, a fun playlist curated by Peloton’s DJ, and a ping pong table that was quickly taken over for beer pong.

In June, we visited Grubhub headquarters near the beautiful Bryant Park. SoundCloud’s Jamie McDonald enlightened us about Async Android and talked about writing asynchronous code in Android apps. Facebook’s Jason Sendros presented “The Road to 60FPS” – he went through finding and fixing FPS glitches, and showed the group what Facebook’s Android News Feed team is doing to improve interaction smoothness.

At the end, we had a couple of lightning talks where the community gets to show us what they’ve been working on. Samsung’s (and Touchlab alum!) Matt David shared his thoughts on Project Tango. We also had a special app demo from Coalition 4 Queens – a non-profit who we work with, bringing tech opportunities to the local Queens community. They showed us their nifty calculator and a meme generator apps!

Thanks to Grubhub and Peloton for hosting! Our next summer meetup will be at SoundCloud – see you then 🙂
